Here is a handy guide on using our face products in your skincare routine if you have normal/combination skin.
Regardless of the hundreds of information about how to care for your skin, Ultimately, caring for your skin is simply personal and only you can decide what is indeed best for your skin.
There are three main steps in all routines:
Cleansing — Washing your face.
Toning — Balancing the skin.
Moisturizing — Hydrating and softening the skin.
The goal of any skincare routine is to get your complexion and skin functioning at its best, and also troubleshoot or treat any concerns you have.
Morning Routine for Normal/Combination Skin
Start with the Enzyme Cream Cleanser which is a gentle fragrance-free cleanser to start your skincare routine. It won’t alter your skin’s pH and it is gentle enough to wash your face with your eyes wide open!
Use our Blemish Control Toner or the Citrus Blast Toning Mist to balance your skin and prime it to absorb the next ingredient. Apply with a cotton pad and gently pat it over your face. Alternatively, use your hands to do the same thing.
Apply 4-5 drops of the Glow Differently Serum Vitamin C + Alpha Arbutin to your skin and allow it to absorb before moving on to the next step. This Serum is a potent antioxidant that protects your skin from daytime stressors like free radicals (caused by UV rays), pollutants, and blue light. It also boosts the efficacy of your sunscreen.
- Spot Treat (If you have Acne)
Use the Better Skin Hydro Gel with 8% Azelaic acid to spot treat active breakouts only. However, if you're experiencing acne, you can apply this product all over the face to speed up the healing cycle.
This simultaneously hydrates and seal in hydration. Use our Calming Face Cream with Allantoin to hydrate your skin, Colloidal oats to soothe and Niacinamide at 5% to reduce pore size, improve texture, reduce hyperpigmentation of age or sun spots and enhance your skin’s barrier functions.
This step is important and cannot be skipped. Wear sunscreen every single day to prevent UV damage, whether or not you go outside. Sunscreen helps protect not just your skin, it also allows all the products you applied to work without interference. If you don’t use a sunscreen, you are wasting all the money you spent on the products. You will also be wrecking your skin, especially if you are treating hyperpigmentation. Choose a mineral sunscreen.
Night Routine for Normal/Combination Skin
- Remove Makeup
Removing makeup from your skin should always be your first step at the end of the day. Use a micellar water or a cleansing oil/balm to gently melt away all makeup, including waterproof mascara. Avoid tugging or rubbing your skin harshly with makeup wipes.
Use the Enzyme Cream Cleanser to gently cleanse your face. Removing makeup first before cleansing your skin is called the Double Cleanse Method.
Use our Blemish Control Toner or the Citrus Blast Toning Mist to balance your skin and prime it to absorb the next ingredient. It is also used to gently exfoliate and clear pores of any residual dirt. Apply with a cotton pad and gently pat it over your face. Alternatively, use your hands to do the same thing.
- Spot Treat
Use the Better Skin Hydro Gel with 8% Azelaic acid to spot treat active breakouts only even if you are experiencing acne. Otherwise, skip this step.
Use the Vitamin A Rescue Overnight Cream. Retinol is a vitamin A derivative that boosts collagen production and increases the rate of cellular turnover. Whether you want to clear breakouts or fade fine lines, or basically do anything to your face, retinol is your friend. Your skin will get smoother with consistent use and post inflammation marks will fade.
However, if you are new to retinol, proceed with caution. Potential side effects can include flaking, dryness, and increased sensitivity to the sun, which is why you should only apply it at night. Start three times a week for the first week or two by alternating the days. From there, you can gradually increase the frequency of application.
You can also buffer it instead by applying a thin layer of moisturizer on the face before applying the retinol, then apply another thin layer of the moisturizer after applying retinol, this is the sandwich method. This way, you still get the benefits, but the potential for irritation is decreased.
- Face Oil
Weekly: This step is optional.
Use Facial Scrub + Mask once a week to help remove toxins on the skin and reduce sebum production. Mix the mask with Honey for the best effect.
