Irish moss (Carrageen moss) is the common name for Chondrus crispus, a specie of red algae notably found in the rocky areas of the Atlantic coasts of Europe and North America. It is commonly found in the shores of Ireland, Iceland, and the Faroe Islands. It is one of the seaweeds that have received high research attention from scientists and as such have been thoroughly examined and found to be instrumental as a medicinal herb and nutrition. It became popular between the 1846 - 1848 Irish famine.
Use
One of the most phenomenal uses of the Irish moss is its medicinal usage in administering support for thyroid hormone malfunctions.
